An Easy Mid-Month Motivational Trick
Halfway through January and how are you doing on your resolution to get in better shape? Are you going strong or barely making it through the starter phase? January 1st always seems to motivate us to reach all our healthy goals, but as life starts to happen further into the month, keeping all those healthy promises seems to take a back seat.
It’s hard to find the motivation to get yourself to the gym, but there is one easy way to boost that motivation.
Like most people you probably decided to start going to the gym, start running, start biking, and you probably started all these things in your same old ratty gym, running, biking clothes from last year. Where is the fun in that? Haven’t you heard the saying: “Clothes make the man.”? Well they can also make the workout.
If you are feeling a little less motivation than you did a few weeks ago, a trip to the sports store or even the “Active” section in TJMaxx will help to get you in the workout sprit. You will not only be surrounded by tons of sports related gear, you will also be surrounded by people in the same boat as you, just trying to find a way to keep the promises that they made to their bodies to take better care of it. Plus at the at this time of year there are quite a few sales on equipment, clothes, and fitness electronics.
It may sound silly that buying new clothes can give you motivation to exercise, but you would be wrong. Think about it: don’t you have that one outfit hiding in your closet that you always wear when you need to feel confident? How about that dress you always wear on a date or a party that makes you feel like the prettiest girl in room? The suit you wear when meeting with a client that makes you feel smart, savvy, and maybe even a little like Donald Trump. A new workout outfit can make you feel like the Olympic athlete you always wanted to be.
You may not feel like going to the gym or on that run when the alarm goes off at 5:30am but how will you feel when you know you have a great looking new pair of shoes or even a new sports top. Just like you would buy a new outfit for a new job, or a date buying a few new workout pieces will motivate you show up for your chosen activity if for no other reason than to show off your new outfit, shoes, or test out your new headphones.
While the newness of the outfit may wear off after you have worn them a few times, but then whatever activity you have chosen to take up this year will be habit, and you won’t need that extra vanity boost.
Of course when those new work out clothes you just bought start to wear out from use or even better no longer fit because they are too big, you get to start the whole process over again. Boom new motivation!
Do you think new clothes will help you keep your New Year's resolution? What other motivational tactics do you use to keep yourself heading toward your goal?
