This Valentine's Day Why Not Try an Active Date?
Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day a big day in the world of dates, but why not change things up a bit and date just a little bit differently or at least a little more activity than usual. Forgo the dinner and a movie and grab your partner (or BFF) and get moving.
Active dating has grown in popularity with today’s society trying to get away from their sedentary lives of desks, computers, and Starbucks leather chairs. Whether it is a first date or just your weekly date with your partner why not change the idea of what a date should be, why not take things outside or at least a bit more active?
Everyone knows that benefits of being more active, and it seem today everyone (even this blog) is trying to find ways to fit just a bit more exercise in without having to hit the gym for 45 minutes a day. Why not combined dating and exercise? The great thing about active dates is that there is something for everyone from those on a first date to those who have been married 50 years.
Doing something active on your first date, helps keep both people engaged without having to carry a conversation the whole time, plus you can tell a lot about a person by how they play a game, how they win/lose, or even how they handle learning a new skill. Great ideas for first dates (or early dating dates): mini golf, the batting cages, Ping-Pong or just a hike in a near by park. Assuming that you are not on the Olympic Ping-Pong team, or a MLB player these dates offer a lot of childish fun without getting you all sweaty and smelly.
Some of the best advice given to long-term couples is that you should never stop dating each other. It has also been found that working out with your partner will not only make you fitter, but it will help to bring you closer together and keep your bond stronger. If you have been with your partner awhile you have a different comfort level than those on a first date, so you can get a bit more brave in your active date choices and try things new to both people. Maybe as a couple you can try taking a dance lesson, partner yoga, or partner kayaking. All of these events will help you work together as a couple and help you to try something new together. Maybe grab another couple and make a game of it.
Even if this Valentine’s Day you are flying solo, there no excuse not to get out their and make a friend date with another single or even a group of singles. Sign up for a beginner paddle-boarding lesson, a game of football (boys vs. girls of course) or stage a citywide scavenger hunt for a group of singles. All that running around looking for clues will surely take your mind of all the couples in your life, and remind you that even single you can connect with people in a fun active way.
This Valentine’s Day why not change things up, set up a date to get active with your partner, first date, or friends and not only celebrate your love, but also the joy of having fun with your partner.
